Maroon 5, Queen, Muse, Iron Maiden, Rihanna, Sia si Steve Aoki au cantat pe rand in Piata Constitutiei. Despre Maroon 5 si Muse am scris deja. Urmeaza in top Sia, Steve Aoki si Rihanna. | Bucharest was a musical hit this summer. Maroon 5, Queen, Muse, Iron Maiden, Rihanna, Sia and Steve Aoki amazed us in Constitution’s Square. I already wrote about Maroon 5 and Muse. Sia, Steve Aoki and Rihanna are next on my playlist. |
Sia
| Contrary to my expectations before the three concerts, Sia sang the best and had an unusual performance. I loved the minimalistic aspect of the stage (her dancers are the main event), and I wasn’t bothered by the fact that she had minimal interaction with the audience or by the fact that she only sang for an hour. All of her shows are like this. Sia is very shy, she won the battle with drugs and alcohol addiction and found her way out of a terrible depression. The wig is her shield when she is on stage. And it’s totally fine, her voice is still spectacular. She managed to receive us in a corner from her mind through the “voices” played between her songs. It’s worth mentioning that Maddie Ziegler, the star dancer from many of her videos was not in Bucharest. She was replaced by another talented girl, Stephanie Mincole. The images you saw on the screens were not live from the stage. All was pre-recorded and perfectly synced with what was going on on stage. It was a bit hard to figure this out without having Diamond Circle tickets, so don’t be sorry if you were fooled. From my point of view, this was Sia’s only “trick”. |
Steve Aoki
Steve Aoki was the pleasant surprise of the festival. It was the first time I saw a DJ mixing live and I didn’t really know what to expect. Once he stepped on stage he showed us that he is an awesome entertainer. He interacted a lot with the audience, made us all clap and dance and perfectly alternated the hardcore house moments with really cool hits mixes.
He didn’t take a trip with the inflatable boat in the audience here, but he did his “Cake me” moment at the end. The lucky or … unlucky ones that were standing in front of the stage took part in a cake fight. The cream cakes were specifically designed after some clear instructions from Steve’s staff. He was the only one of the three artists that came out for an encore, but he just high-fived the fans and interacted with them. I wonder if he couldn’t play more because of some restrictions. |
Rihanna
Momentul meu preferat a fost mix-ul de la mijlocul show-ului intre piesele lui Calvin Harris: We found love si How deep is your love.
Rihanna came in third, she respected a Romanian saying, something among the lines of: “Man plans, God laughs.” I had a good time, but I felt a bit tricked. Rihanna lip-synced some songs and she was more concerned for her beer bottle. All over she was not very enthusiastic. I’m not gonna complain about the fact that she didn’t change 7 outfits like she usually does, it’s not what matters in a concert. My favorite moment was the Calvin Haris mix from the middle of the show: We found love and How deep is your love. The audience disappointed me again; people don’t live the moment, they just stand there like statues too preoccupied to record everything. After 10 minutes there was also an incident: the two main screens went dark, and it made life really hard for the people in the back – they could barely distinguish what was going on on stage. I think this also contributed to the audiences’ apathy. |
I’m still waiting for more artists to come visit us, maybe our audience will learn how to really live a concert. Until now, from my point of view, Bon Jovi and Robbie Williams were the best performers in Bucharest.
Call me old-fashioned, but I’m of the opinion that there’s no excuse for lip-syncing in concerts. People pay good money to go to shows and see artists perform LIVE: which means actually singing.
