If you’ve read my blog before, then you know I am very passionate about sports. And how could I have missed an ancient sports site in my vacation? Outside the town, you can find Monte Smith (a hill named after a British general) – here you can visit the ancient stadium, a small amphitheater and the temple of Apollo, all of them are included in a natural park, with free entrance. We arrived here with the hop on hop off bus, the station was just 5 minutes away from our hotel. There are two buses (red and yellow), with an hourly schedule. One ride is 15 euros in the morning, or 12 euros by noon. A ticket is available for the day. You can also take this ride in a tourist train for 7 euros for a one-way ticket. We were the only tourists who descended from the bus to visit the site, and for an hour we admired the ancient ruins. The stadium is well preserved, especially the spectator seating. From here, you can continue to visit Rhodes by bus or train, both cover the most important touristic objectives. |
