One week with me

LUNI

18:15: Ne intalnim in centrul orasului si mergem sa mancam.

YAM!

22:00: Timpul sa plec spre casa. Merg in aceeasi directie cu una dintre fete.

22:45: In sfarsit acasa. Verific cu atentie totul in jur.

MONDAY

5:30: My boyfriend is having an early domestic flight and I wake up to say goodbye. I go back to bed once he leaves but I cannot fall back asleep so I scroll through Instagram for a bit. I finally manage to fall back asleep around 7:30.

8:00: My alarm goes off and sure enough, now I am sleepy. I snooze it three times but I have to get out of bed eventually. I hate Mondays!

8:20: I am up and running. I always prepare my outfit the night before to save time. It takes me about 20 minutes to get ready. I put my “no makeup” makeup on and I am good to go. There’s one more thing that needs to be done …

8:45: Since my boyfriend is not coming back until tomorrow morning and I will be out the whole day I do a quick disinsectization. We’ve been having a weird problem lately … I randomly find dead small cockroaches in my kitchen so am I freaking out. Where are all the big ones? We never had this issue in these four years living here. I guess it’s also because every 3-4 months I spray around with a professional bug repellant. This thing clearly does wonder and it was about time for my quarterly disinsectization so I do it and hope for the best.

9:15: This took longer than planned. I leave for work in a rush and miss my tram by seconds. My commute usually takes around 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic (by tram and then metro). Looks like this is my lucky day as another tram arrives almost instantly and I also have a seat. This is a good start for the day.

9:45: I am on the metro and get another surprise. My best friend has a sweet treat for me: she got her hands on my favorite chocolate from Greece. We make plans to meet tonight for dinner. We ask a third friend to join us. My day looks amazing.

10:10: I  stop for coffee next to my office. I can also get it for free at work but this coffee place is amazing so from time to time I get a treat. I buy a macchiato and leave a small tip for the barista. Five minutes later I arrive at work and check my emails. I am so grateful that the schedule is not awfully strict so nobody will get mad if I am a bit late. The hours are flexible and as long as I don’t overdo it and finish my tasks in time I am good. Today looks like a quiet day.

10:30: My colleague also arrives, we discuss a bit about our weekend, then we plan ahead for our future projects. After we finish I have a bit of free time so I check my personal email, read the press for a bit and see what’s new on a couple of my favorite sites. I appreciate so much these moments. After 10 years of working as a sports journalist and having no to time to breathe at work this change of pace feels amazing. After feeling burned out, I transitioned about four years ago into the IT field as a technical writer.

12:30: I get a quick lunch, a tuna sandwich from Subway. I started to work here four months ago and I have not found lunch buddies. I get along with my colleagues but they extend a lunch invite only on a few occasions. It felt weird at the beginning but now I enjoy the time alone. At my former job, I usually got lunch from home but the commute was only 15 minutes. Now it’s longer and the subway is so crowded that a lunch box is the last thing I also want to carry along with me.

15:30: I take a break after being immersed in work for a few hours. I am using it to fill in this diary and plan ahead for my week. I do a very simple journal to help me achieve my tasks. It’s a minimalist version of the popular bullet journal I came up with many years ago before it was cool. I love being organized. My colleague craves something sweet and we go to the supermarket across the street. I cannot resist and get chocolate filled biscuits and a small Schweppes.

17:45: I am done for the day so I leave to see the girls.

18:15: We meet in the city center and go eat something. I pick a salad and a beer. We laugh and enjoy this evening.

19:30: One of my friends’ friends recently opened up a coffee place nearby so we pay a visit. The place is lovely, I order an iced coffee and we enjoy our drinks on the terrace. The owners also treated us with some free carrot cake for the visit. Thank you and might I say … YUM!

22:00: Time to get home. One of my friends and I walk together towards the metro, but I catch a tram nearby.

22:45: Finally home. Remember the disinsectization this morning? I am terrified to go in. Maybe I should not have done this while my boyfriend is away. I do have an insect phobia so I try to keep my cool and walk in. I carefully check for dead bugs. There are none. What does this even mean? Did it work SO fast? I pour a glass of wine and I do a load of laundry, shower and pick out my outfit for tomorrow.

2:00: I call it a night. As usual, I go to sleep late and regret in the morning.

MARTI

Soseste si ea in vreo 8 minute si incepe.

Trebuie sa plec in graba spre munca.

1:00: Somn usor!

TUESDAY

8:10: My alarm goes off and sure enough, I snooze it a couple of times. Meanwhile, my boyfriend is home from his trip. I kiss him and I get ready to run to my waxing/eyebrows session at a place nearby.

9:00: I arrive there but the cosmetician is a bit late so I just stand there scrolling on Instagram. She arrives in about 8 minutes and we begin. I am so happy I found her, she is awfully nice and also skilled at her job and knows how to make the whole Brazilian waxing situation a whole lot better and not awkward.

10:10: Back home and I am now in a hurry! I have to get to work fast. I did let them know I will be running late this morning. As I arrive I also get a cup of coffee. And I leave a small tip for a man that always plays the violin next to the coffee booth. I do not usually do this, but he plays so good and is actually making my morning a bit better. Ok, I feel tears coming in thinking about all the talented people that never got the break they deserve. Brain and woman hormones, please stop it!

14:00: We are going to the seaside this Friday so I use my spare time to search around for hotels. Everything good is either booked or way too expensive. I find a room after all at a new and fancy hotel so I book it out of curiosity even if it’s over my planned budget. YOLO! Also, no lunch today because I ate some biscuits out of my goodies drawer and ruined my appetite.

18:30: Work ready and booking done. I stayed over my usual hours to recover for what I was late this morning. And now I am waiting for my boyfriend to go out to dinner.

19:30: We arrive at a fancy place downtown and I order a refreshing cocktail; my boyfriend gets a beer. I order some halloumi cheese and fries and he also gets fries with marinated chicken. Everything is great. We finish off with dessert and take a short walk to the tram.

22:00: We are home and I just take a seat on the couch for 5 45 minutes. I am so lazy but I pick myself up, take a shower, pay my phone bill on my banking app and pick out my outfit.

1:00: Good night!

MIERCURI

8:15: Suna alarama. O AMAN! Siii acum e aproape 9. Am dormit super prost azi noapte si acum ma intreb de ce naiba trebuie sa ma dau jos din pat in ziua asta innorata. Ah da … Am nevoie de bani ca sa traiesc. Dar munca mai poate sa astepte putin. Ma cuibaresc cu prietenul meu  inca 10 minute. Si deja ma simt mai bine.

9:30: E super tarziu!

WEDNESDAY

8:15: The alarm goes off. SNOOZE! Annnddd now it’s almost 9. I slept so bad last night and now I am wondering why on Earth I have to get out of bed on this cloudy day. Oh yeah … I need money for a living. But work can wait so I just cuddle with my boyfriend for 10 more minutes. I am already feeling better.

9:30: So late! Thank you job for being flexible. I run to work, stop for coffee, tip the barista. I arrive at the office. And I am the first one out of my team to come in. 😉

10:30: My colleague arrives and tells me I look pretty today. I never know how to take a compliment as I never feel fully confident in my looks or brains or myself for that matter but I do as the book says, smile and say thank you!

12:00: I take a short break from work to make a packing list for my trip. It helps me not forget anything and get my bag ready in a shorter amount of time. I will email an adaptation to my boyfriend because he started to enjoy this organizational trick. I also do not know what to eat; I am a bit hungry but I do not know what I am craving.

13:00: I grab lunch at Paul, two fried eggs with a bit of salad and tomatoes. Before heading back to the office, I stop to get a smoothie that resembles a lot with a virgin colada.

18:00: My boyfriend picks me up and we go to his parents for dinner. If our schedule allows it we visit his parents and my mom once a week. This week my mom is on vacation and out of town so we will see her next week when she returns.

21:30: We arrive home and I take a bath, then I pick out my clothes for tomorrow. I am too lazy to style my hair so I just do a quick blow dry. I will put my hair in a ponytail tomorrow. Later I spend some time chatting with my friends on our WhatsApp group.

1:10: Sleep; late as usual 🙂

JOI

2:30: Somn!

THURSDAY

8:20: Alarm, snooze, get out of bed late, my usual morning routine. Boyfriend is on vacation and sleeping in. Now I am so jealous!

10:20: Arrive at work after my usual coffee stop. Tomorrow my short vacation begins and I am barely able to focus. But I get myself together as I have two very busy months ahead and start to plan my workload. I am still learning many things at my new job.

12:10: My colleague and I visit a Korean food store located nearby. I am not very adventurous when it comes to food but I do buy some things: candy, biscuits and a can of spam ham. I try out the candy and share some of them with my colleague. They are good. I tasted from her some grape juice which I enjoyed and a pancake-like dessert filled with red bean cream.

14:30:I was not in the mood for lunch so I went ahead and got a small bag of chips.

17:30: My boyfriend picks me up. We buy some shampoo and also get some sandwiches for the road tomorrow.

19:00: We start to cook dinner: steak with mashed potatoes. After this, I clean around the house a bit and start packing. I also take a quick shower and check my bag one last time.

2:30: Sleep!

VINERI

6:30: Trezirea e devreme azi.

Soferul urmator spune ca ajunge in alte 15 minute.

8:30: Plecam spre mare.

Apoi nu are nicio idee despre locatia in care vrem sa ajungem.

18:30: Inapoi in camera!

FRIDAY

6:30: Rise and shine. I am so sleepy, but I get out of bed, get dressed, take some snacks with me and off we go to our weekend retreat.

7:30: I call an Uber to get us to the bus station and it will be here in 15 minutes. After a 10 minute waiting period, he cancels and we are in a hurry. The next automatically assigned driver will be here in 15 minutes! I will never get to the bus in time. I cancel my order and have to pay 2 dollars!!! Why UBER? It’s not my fault your drivers suck. I get a cab and we are on our way.

8:30: We get on board and leave. We have a three hours road ahead. I can’t wait to get there.

11:30: We arrive at our destination. I call a taxi but he is so late. Then he has no idea about the direction we want to go. Luckily, we know.

12:00: At the hotel, we find out from a very uninterested receptionist that the room is not ready until 4 p.m. Today was not a good day for services. We put on our swimsuits in the bathroom and go to the beach.

12:10: The beach boy doesn’t want to open the umbrella because it’s a bit windy. What is up with the people today? I don’t want to ruin my vacation mood and fight so I say nothing. Luckily, it’s not that hot. I drink a Pepsi and move on with my lovely day. The water is great :). Meanwhile, we take a few minutes to check-in.

18:30: Back in the room! We shower and get dressed and off we go for a nice evening out: dinner and drinks. We go back to our hotel room and sleep like babies.

SAMBATA

8:30: Buna dumineata! Ne intoarcem in camera pentru o siesta scurta.

Vacanta e grozava pana acum. Ne intoacem mai tarziu in camera si adormim repede dupa inca o zi plina.

SATURDAY

8:30: Rise and shine! After some lazy minutes in bed, we go down for breakfast. One of the best I ever had on my trips with many many options to choose from. We go back to our room for a siesta.

11:30: We have our habit to have relaxing mornings at the seaside even if this means we do not go straight to the beach. We finally get moving and go straight for a swim. This is what we do all day long. The weather was so nice we did not even feel hungry.

18:10: It gets a bit cloudy so we go to our room to shower and get ready. After this same routine: dinner and drinks. This vacation is great until now. We return late to our room and sleep after another full day.

20180910_101608

DUMINICA

SUNDAY

8:10: I’ve slept so well last night! The first thing I do is to go straight to our nice balcony, get a breath of fresh air and admire the sea. It’s a bit colder today but it will get better by the time we head to the beach.

9:15: We go downstairs for breakfast. It’s as good as yesterday. Then we go back to the room for our usual siesta. I go out again on the balcony to write these lines and just let it all sink in. I wish I could live more in the moment more and not let the future or other problems constantly bug me. After this break, it’s beach time 🙂

11:30: We enjoy the warm water and drink some delicious Bacardi Breezers. We also snack on some raspberries. We return to our room a bit earlier, before 6 since it’s cloudy.

20:30: We relaxed a bit and took a bath. Now we are ready for dinner and drinks. We go back to our room and enjoy fireworks for the third night in a row. The clubs are celebrating the final seaside evenings. I am gonna miss the fireworks back home 🙂

I would also like to read about how you spend a week, step by step, so either write a blog post and let me know or send me the information so I can publish it here 🙂

  1. Interesting for me to practice reading Romanian. It would be great if you named the places you visit – restaurants, coffee bars etc, and where they are. Even the seaside hotel and which resort it is in, though personally I wouldn’t go to the seaside, preferring the mountains.
