On your national day, I hope you’ll have reasons to smile, to be happy and proud. Above all, I hope you will learn to be more tolerant and please don’t forget that only together we can change Romania.

REWIEW: TRATTORIA BUONGIORNO

Am incercat Ravioli rosso con Buratta in traducere libera: Ravioli proaspete, muguri de pin, smântână dulce, parmezan.

I’m just realizing that I love to write for you about … food. It’s because I’ve been a food lover since I can remember. In my childhood, my mom could barely get me to save a piece of chocolate for the next day. It’s really easy actually: I prefer to live in the moment and enjoy what I have now. If I don’t save some for later … it’s not a loss. At least I was happy while it lasted.

Let’s get down to business. Last week I’ve delighted myself with some delicious food at Trattoria Buongiorno (located on Lascar Catargiu Street).

We’ve tried Ravioli Rosso con Burrata: Fresh ravioli, pine nuts, cream, parmesan. Reallyyyyy tasty. The cream sauce was just right, not heavy at all, just a delight with the rest of the ingredients.

REVIEW: DINING AT SAINT GEORGE, BUCHAREST

Post available in English and Romanian
When I don’t have the time or money to travel, I like to take a moment and feel like I’m on vacation in my Bucharest. I try to find the hidden beauty of the city with every step I take. I don’t like to visit the same places every time, it would be boring, so I try to mix it up and try different things. This also counts when we’re planning a dinner out for two. From time to time homecooked meals are not enough, all you need is a quiet place to drink and eat something tasty.

WINTER LANDSCAPE

Post available in English and Romanian
This is how winter looks from my window. Magical … until you have to go outside to work, shopping or for a simple walk. Then, you become an occasional climber on the snow mountains dumped by the snowplows on the sidewalk. The extreme cold wave is also contributing to this feeling. Until tomorrow when I start a new “expedition”, I choose to enjoy this picture.

THE CHRISTMAS FEELING

Post available in English and Romanian
Peisajul de iarna, cu zapada peste tot, turturi la fereste si ghetusuri, nu s-a instalat in Romania in zilele dinaintea Craciunului. Totul insa arata ca in povesti si asta pentru ca parca autoritatile s-au straduit mai mult decat in alte ocazii sa deocoreze orasele. The perfect winter picture, with snow everywhere, icicles and glazed frost didn’t set in in Romania in the days before Christmas. Nevertheless, it all looks magical and that’s because the city authorities tried harder this time to decorate for winter. Here’s a detailed “postcard” from Bucharest and Iasi.

WINTER WONDERLAND

“The holidays are coming …” just like a famous commercial is announcing. Slowly, Romania is putting on holiday clothes. The Christmas lights were switched on in most cities on December 1st. I saw the decorations in Iasi and Bucharest. I’m already feeling the Christmas spirit, earlier than ever.

SUMMER WILL COME … SOMEDAY

Post available in English and Romanian
Daca ar fi sa am un motto in Urzeala Tronurilor, as adapta zicala familiei Stark: “Vine iarna!”.

If I were to have a motto in Game of Thrones, I’d adapt the famous Stark words: “Winter is coming”. I don’t like winter, I’d rather be a summer child.

It’s the reason why I’m convinced that the sea is not made to be seen only during the summer time, it can be admired even on a November day. She’s even more beautiful, with empty and quiet shores, but infuriated by the wind beating toward the seaside. I take a deep breath and I can almost taste the salt on my tongue. I stay here, in a tranquil state for a few moments … then I move on, with my thoughts. It’s funny how the “noise” in my head dims every time I stand here. I can’t stay for long … she’s cold with me now, but I’m not leaving her alone, the seagulls are always here, no matter the season. The sea knows as well as I do that in the end … summer is coming!
