REVIEW: PELICAN BAY ART HOTEL IN MYKONOS

Mi-am petrecut vacanta in Mykonos la unul dintre cele mai bune hoteluri de la malul marii in care am stat de-a lungul timpului: Pelican Bay Art.

Localizat la doar 5 minute de plaja Platis Gialos, hotelul nu are de oferit doar o buna pozitionare, la cativa pasi de una dintre cele mai furmoase plaje de pe insula. Privelistea spectaculoasa de la etajele superioare este unica. Hotelul mi-a amintit de un labirint, fiind pozitionat intr-un mod foarte ingenios. Te poti rataci cu usurinta daca esti mai mult cu ochii la pesisajele minunate. Nu va faceti insa prea multe griji, pentru ca noi am invatat sa ne descurcam prin labirint inca din prima zi.

 I’ve spent my vacation in Mykonos in one of the best seaside hotels I had the pleasure to experience during my vacations: Pelican Bay Art.

Located 5 minutes away from Platis Gialos beach, the hotel offers so much more than good positioning, steps away from one of the best beaches the island has to offer. The spectacular views offered from the top floors are breathtaking. The hotel reminded me of a labyrinth, the setup is very interesting, and you can easily end up in another place if you get distracted by the beautiful views. But don’t worry, we learned our way around from our first day there.

PLATIS GIALOS, A BEACH PARADISE

Mykonos ofera multe plaje incantatoare, de la cele ascunse si mai putin frecventate, la cele luxoase, unde un sezlong pleaca de la 50 de euro in sus. Loc este pentru toata lumea, indiferent de gusturi si asteptari.

Noi am fost lenesi si din varietatea de plaje, printre plimbarile pe Delos sau in oras, am mers doar la plaja Platis Gialos, chiar langa hotelul nostru.

 Mykonos offers many lovely beaches, from hidden gems, not over-crowded to luxurious ones, where you can get a sunbed for 50 euros and even more. There is a place for everyone, no matter the expectations.

We were lazy and between our walks in Mykonos Town and  Delos, we only visited the Platis Gialos beach located close to our hotel.

THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND OF DELOS

Faimoasa pentru stilul de viata decadent si petrecerile pana in zori de zi, Mykonos nu exceleaza si la capitolul istorie. Exista cateva povesti celebre, iar mitologia greaca ne spune ca Mykonos e locul unde Zeus s-a luptat cu titanii; insa istoria nu este la fel de bogata ca in Rodos, destinatia noastra de anul trecut.

Chiar si asa, la 30 de minute cu barca gasim insula Delos, o fosta civilizatie cosmopolita, care a prosperat timp de aproape un mileniu, inainte sa reintre in anonimitate. Recunoscuta ca fiind locul de nastere al zeilor Apollo si Artemis, acesta insula devenita loc de pelerinaj a fost de asemenea si un cunoscut port inclus in cele mai importante rute din antichitate. Comertul era principala activitate, multi oameni bogati, din toate colturile lumii au ales sa locuiasca aici, existand dovezi ale civilizatiilor grecesti, romane, siriene si egiptene, toate convietuind impreuna pe aceasta insula mica, dar foarte populara.

Pavata cu gnais, Delos e unul dintre cele mai stralucitoare locuri de pe pamant. Multi au mers mai departe si au spus ca, localizata chiar in centrul cicladelor, acest loc este unul in care energia cosmica are puteri nebanuite.

 Famous for the decadent lifestyle and night long parties, Mykonos does not offer much in terms of history. There are charming stories and the Greek mythology places Mykonos as the place where Zeus fought against the Titans, but it’s not nearly as rich in history as Rhodes, our destination from last year.

Even so, 30 minutes away by boat from this lively island lies Delos, an ancient cosmopolitan civilization, that flourished for nearly a millennium before slowly descending into anonymity. Recognized as the birthplace of the two gods Apollo and Artemis, this cult island slowly became a rich port and an interesting location for powerful civilizations. Trading was a popular activity here and many rich people from all the corners of the world settled here in ancient times. There are traces of Greek, Roman, Syrian and Egyptian cultures, all merged into this tiny yet amazing island.

Paved with gneiss, Delos is one of the brightest places on earth. Many have gone further to say that being in the center of the Cyclade Islands this is also a powerful spot, filled with immense cosmic energy.

WANDERERS IN MYKONOS

Un labirint aparent infinit, linistit dimineata dar transformat total in timpul noptii, cam asa e Mykonos. Strazile inguste te duc adanc in inima orasului, sau la marginea sa unde vei descoperi cea mai albasta mare.
Din loc in loc, florile frumos colorate rasar parca de nicaieri si  totul se combina intr-un tablou perfect care iti capteaza intreaga atentie si iti ramane pentru totdeauna in inima.		 A seamless infinite labyrinth, quiet in the mornings but restless during the nights, this is how Mykonos feels like.
Narrow white streets can lead you into the pounding heart of the city or at the edge of the bluest sea. Patches of magenta flowers pop up in your way, combining everything in a perfect painting that captures your attention and stays forever in your memory.

WONDERS OF RHODES

Cu siguranta toata lumea asociaza Rodosul cu legenda celebrului colos care a fost ridicat aici in antichitate. Impunatoarea statuie a fost distrusa de un cutremur, iar astazi nici macar locatia exacta nu i se cunoaste. Recent s-ar fi descoperit dovezi cum ca statuia a fost ridicata pe un deal in apropiera Rodusului – unde acum puteti vizita stadionul, amfiteatrul si ruinele templului lui Apollo. Insa alte teorii sustin ca aceasta a fost ridicata in port. In amintirea legendei, pe locul in care se prepupune ca a fost ridicat Colosul acum stau doua statui – un cerb si o ciuta. Legenda colosului a fascinat insa intregi generatii – a inspirat celebra statuie a libertatii si producatorii Game of Thrones au creeat Titanul din Braavos dupa chipul si asemanarea Colosului din Rodos. Se vorbeste despre un proiect prin care un nou colos ar putea sa ia nastere in Rodos, insa mai e cale lunga pana acolo. I’m pretty sure that when people think Rhodes, they automatically associate the island with the legend of the Colossus, the statue that stood here in ancient times. It was destroyed by an earthquake, and today we don’t even know the exact location. Recently, some excavations place the statue on a hill, next to Rhodes City, where you can now visit the stadium, theatre and the temple of Apollo. Other theories claim that the statue was located in the harbor. Here two statues remind us of the possible location – a buck and a deer. The Colossus legend fascinated entire generations – it even inspired the famous statue of liberty, and the producers of Game of Thornes created the Braavos Titan after the legendary statue from Rhodes. There’s talk of a new colossus in Rhodes, but it looks like there’s a long way to go.
